Pasture Raised & Grass Fed
From the moment they are born to the time they are loaded in the trailer our sheep live on pasture. God created sheep to thrive and grow on fresh grass, a fact that we try to accommodate as much as possible. In the fall and winter, our sheep are fed grass and/or alfalfa hay. Before and during breeding, our ewes are supplemented with non-corn, non-soy, non-GMO grain. But our lambs are truly 100% grass fed and grass finished.
Dorper Sheep
We raise Dorper sheep, a breed designed for delicious, lean, and succulent meat. Rather than raising a dual-purpose sheep that produces mediocre wool and mediocre meat, we threw all our eggs into the same basket to provide you with quality and tasty protein. Dorpers are “hair sheep” meaning that they shed their wool in the summer and grow it back again in winter. This unique feature is not only desirable for the producer (no shearing) but also for the consumer. The “gamey” taste often associated with lamb is caused in part by the lanolin oils in the sheep’s wool. The fact that dorpers shed eliminates the “lanolin factor” resulting in a milder, sweeter, and more satisfying product.
